I think Hunter keeps Joe in place because then the democrats have to keep him out of jail. With Joe out of the WH, this guarantee drops (either way, with or without Trump), the democrats have no further reason to prop Hunter up against all the valid criminal lawsuits against him: cocaine, bribery, tax offences, prostitution ring...
With Joe out of the WH, Hunter is fair game, even for democrat judges. It is a way for the democrats to cleanse themselves in public view for the Biden excesses: dump Hunter.

In my view, Gavin Newsom does not want to attempt 2024. He would rather see Biden and above all Harris crushed and liquidated by the Trump vote in 2024, leaving him a clean path to 2028.
Newsom is not that stupid to step into the trap: a loss from Trump in 2024 destroys his future. His campaign starts on the evening of November 5th 2024. (I write this in right away before even listening to the cast, which I will do now.)
