I have to be transparent to the group, I had to order a watered down version of the Odyssey and I have no shame! Lol. My 10 hour shifts more frequently are 11-12 hours and the mental exhaustion does not correlate with that type of reading.. My husband reminded me that he translated both The Iliad and The Odyssey from Greek to English when he was in high school. This did not stop me from ordering the easier version!
Terri, and Kieran too.... and I say this with no judgments, No Cheats Sheets will not help long term in life. In time read the Odyssey in completion. I understand time and priorities, but this one is illuminating. Best to all.
Perfect! and wonderful. We are all going on this journey together, I just like to share From time to time, just me . Best to you Terri!! more another day
OH NO! Kieran and Terri , Homer's The Odyssey is a timeless classic that everyone should read in some capacity. It beautifully captures the essence of life. It's a journey through an epic tale of Adventure, Resilience, and as I see most importantly Self-discovery. Its vivid storytelling with profound themes, I my mind making a quintessential in understanding the human experience. I find it extremely relevant. Just my thoughts....

Growth in Europe remains weak and recessionary in the UK.
Lower energy & food prices in the USA. Corporate earnings still increasing in the USA. Tips, overtime & social security tax cuts have been voted now.
At any rate, in June I was in DC and next week Rhode Island. Difficult to get a table in a restaurant (or if you do, find a waiter who hasn't hands full).
I think 1.5% US growth forecast will prove too low.
For the US hopefully that proves true. If not, low growth against persistent inflation could mean real per capita decline. Nevertheless, where I am sure the US will come out ahead is that it will suffer less than many others, meaning the pain is less noticeable in relative terms.
It used to be that the US suffered in different ways - but not economically (having lived there 2x). The rule of thumb does not apply to the same extent any more as Europe is now as violent with as many homeless, addicts and perverts as the USA (go see Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, or Paris Champs Elysées after 10 pm).
The job market doesn’t feel good. There’s more risk aversion, and everyone’s clinging to critical mass at the expense of ambition and growth. It all feels like a slow spiral down the sinkhole.
To me, what’s more frightening to many is the idea that, in many circles, no one actually knows what’s going on. Maybe that’s why conspiracies are so prevalent today. They’re a way to explain otherwise inexplicable incompetence. It feels safer to believe that at least someone or something is in control. That said, I do enjoy putting on my tin foil hat from time to time.
totally agree Kieran; conspiracies make sense (even if nefarious) of an out of control world; its why as a play I must prefer MacBeth to Hamlet! as for conspiracies, i’ve been a JFK obsessive all my life and have probably seen the Stone movie (a lot of it flat wrong, but there’s so much) 8 times. This is ever since my father (a sharpshooter in Korea) quietly said he couldn't have done Oswald’s shooting, and that the first aimed shot is almost always the best, not the third
Yes, wow John. That’s an unsettling quote from someone who clearly knew what he was talking about. It really makes you think. Seems off that Lady Luck would be the most likely explanation.
On the ridiculous rather than serious end, my favourite fun one is the idea that Kubrick used his filming techniques during the Apollo era, and then planted clues about it in The Shining.
De Santis will run in 2028. And he is doing fine in Florida, but he needs nationwide exposure/recognition for that. It is easier to promote as a governor from the opposition than if the party is in the White House. That's just how the newsflow and the media and the public's attention work out.
There are hundreds of thousands of very good speeches on balancing the budget - and a handful of successful examples, and it takes assume two decades of focus and hard work. I wrote a brief text about that before.
Bacon as a Spice!
This Kamala Harris interview was so 'confusing and weird' that they didn't air it.

This version will help me accomplish that goal! It’s a good solid foundation.
I understand and applaud. Ask said no judgments on my end.. This, to me a very important reading. bBest to you Terri, always
I didn’t take it any other way Dianne! Thank you!

In typical Millennial fashion, I’m hoping John will pick out the highlight reel so I don’t have to do the hard yards.

US Core Consumer Prices Rise Less Than Expected for Fifth Month.
Stocks Rise and Treasury Yields Fall on Tame CPI.
(Tue, July 15 2025)
Could a cooling CPI be demand destruction in disguise, corroding levelised growth far more than markets want to admit?

UK Inflation Jumped to 3.6% in June as Food Costs Rose - UK Inflation Unexpectedly Jumps as Labour Tax Hikes Take Toll
(while at the same time there was an economic contraction in the UK in April and May - June is not published yet).

Attendants had signalled the presence of a guy on the roof...?
and local cop, after threatened, frantically informed the Secret Service; MacBeth and Hamlet
Yes…unbelievable isn’t it!

But it's a long time still...
Yes, a fine administrator (God knows Republicans need more of this) but the charisma of a tree. Bet on Vance
He gave a great speech a few months ago about the importance of balancing the budget..

Yes, I remember Erik! All your texts helpful!
