John, in all honesty, I am currently immersing myself in a second far more in depth reading of Ethical Realism. This reread has profoundly enriched my perspective since my initial cursory encounter in 2021. (I subscribed to your sub stack in 2021 and that's when I started purchasing your collection of publication )

The revisitation, now in time, is however much more meaningful to me given the journey. The engagement with your introduction, I am struck by the poignant resonance of your personal loses, a catalyst, no doubt.( perfect timing after yesterday discussion, and lessons for all of us, indeed)

I eagerly await the next few Fridays of this deep, reflective exploration, and analysis of this important work.

Additionally, books or journals of "Aphorisms" are wonderful and personal, mine is a cut and past and also contains works of art.

Have a great weekend, and you have given us all not only a Master Reading but the chance to reflect in the amazement of life.

So happy you’ve done this, John. ‘A risk that must be taken, if personal integrity is to be maintained and America put on a better foreign policy course.’ As Jefferson said, ‘Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of liberty.’ You chose the tempest, and the integrity shows.

Very much looking forward to the next parts and the ethical tenets. The carefully chosen quotes at the beginning of each chapter are also especially thought provoking.

Wishing you a great weekend.

Interesting how you published this book just around the time I decided academia was not for me. It sounds like the kind of work that may have convinced me to stick around a while longer. Although seeing the state of academia today it was probably for the best.

My break from the academy was the simple fact that given my Jeffersonian/realist leanings they would never have me. And I wanted direct influence, I suppose

John,

Concept albums are fantastic, this is true. But they also have a predictable course (for the most part).

In my line of work, I deal with people who are in crisis and I am always humbled by the examples of the human spirit that I witness.

When you wrote this book, you were in crisis mode, it was real and what was happening in your life. And without Ethical Realism, there wouldn’t be your “Revolver” books.

My copy is still in transit

Have a great weekend!

Wise words, Terri; thank you for them. Yes, history is all of a piece—you don’t get to ‘B’, without going through ‘a.’ All that came after, in a sense, is down to the storm-tossed era of Ethical. And I am glad for the journey.
