Thanks for another great podcast John. Always loved Gene Hackman. As a kid he was, and always will be, the real Lex Luthor and he stole the show in both Superman 1 & 2. As a teen I loved his performance in The Firm, where he played the morally complex character Avery Tolar. He will be missed but we are lucky to have his body of work to look back on.
Hey Rob, yes, Hackman is such a gem that the staff at the firm couldn’t get down to a list of 5 for our series; we were at about 15, that’s how fantastic he was. In the end, we just went with the award-nominated films to end a very heated discussion! (I love it when we thrash things out and everyone has a stake in the game). Again, like the Beatles he’s pretty close to cultural perfection; there isn’t a film he is in, that he didn’t make better.
I love Gene Hackman, I always have. He used his voice and facial expressions like no other. He showed the vulnerability of
his characters and he was very intelligent.
Me too Terri, one of a kind. He will be greatly missed. But we shall have fun looking at the magic he created
